License
The content of The Ingredient Files is provided under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license. Evidence verification serves the public interest, and anyone is free to read and share it.
What you may do
- Share and redistribute - copy and redistribute the material verbatim in any medium or format.
- Cite - quote freely as long as you give attribution.
Two conditions apply: the use must be non-commercial, and you must give attribution.
What you may not do
- Commercial use - selling, ad revenue, paid services, and other commercial purposes require separate permission.
- Distribute modified or adapted versions - you may not distribute a version with altered grades or wording.
Why no derivatives?
The value of this dossier lies in the fact that its grades and citations are grounded precisely in the actual evidence. If someone spreads an adapted version with altered grades or source text under this name, that trust is damaged from the outside. So verbatim sharing is welcome, but distributing adaptations is restricted. Legitimate quotation for criticism, research, or reporting remains possible under copyright law regardless of the no-derivatives term.
What the license covers
This site mixes three kinds of content of different natures, which we distinguish honestly.
- 1. Our original expression (summaries, grades, assessments, curation, translations, site structure and wording) - covered by CC BY-NC-ND 4.0.
- 2. Quoted source text (verbatim quotations from paper abstracts such as PubMed and institutional text such as the FDA) - rights belong to the respective owners; this site uses them as quotations. When reusing them, follow the terms of the original owner.
- 3. Public data (facts and figures from the U.S. USDA FoodData Central and U.S. government documents) - generally public domain. Facts and figures themselves are not subject to copyright.
